The Trick-or-Treat: Halloween Rum & Chocolate Tasting Masterclass begins with a tasting of Belizean cacao nibs, followed by two handcrafted rum cocktails expertly paired with four distinct craft chocolates. Highlights include Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rare Gold (Puerto Rico, 8yrs), El Dorado Demerara (Guyana, 12yrs), DesBarres Apricot Bergamot 72% Dark, SOMA Mango Lhasi White, and more. Between tastings, enjoy trivia with prizes like bean-to-bar chocolate, handmade art, or international treats. The evening finishes with Black Olive Tapenade, flatbreads, crudités, and a Halloween-inspired chocolate-drizzled popcorn takeaway—a night of indulgent, grown-up fun.

Mary Luz Mejia, Canada’s first IICCT Level III Certified Chocolate Taster, International Chocolate Awards juror, and journalist, brings her expertise as a chocolate and cacao sommelier to The Depanneur, where interesting food things happen. For more than a decade, The Dep has showcased Toronto’s remarkable culinary diversity through unique food events, bringing together chefs, artisans, and enthusiasts in unforgettable experiences. At this tasting, Mary Luz guides guests through some of the world’s finest chocolates, paired with Caribbean rums selected by WSET III Certified sommelier Mario Stojanac. Together, they offer a sensory journey exploring tropical terroirs, the artistry behind bean-to-bar chocolate, and the rich complexity of premium rums from around the globe.
